Body Mass Index (BMI)

Calculating body mass index, or BMI, is a low-cost, easy method to assess overweight and obesity based on height and weight. A BMI wheel makes the process even easier.

BMI = (

weight in pounds

) X 703
(height in inches) X (height in inches)

BMI = (

weight in kilograms

)
(height in inches) X (height in inches)

For adults over the age of 20, BMI falls into one of four groups: underweight, normal, overweight, and obese. For children, BMI is interpreted according to age and gender.
